Thoughts: A Wrinkle In Time Management
Based on the bestselling book, Ava DuVernay brings us A Wrinkle In Time. Meg and her brother journey across the universe to find their missing dad with the help of three witches. It's as big and vast as that sounds, but it never really breaks from being a kids' film.
Starring newcomers Storm Reid (Meg), Deric McCabe (Charles Wallace), and Levi Miller (Calvin), they bring their talents alongside Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, and Oprah Winfrey in this magical and fantastical adventure. A Wrinkle In Time is an adventure across space and time to stop the darkness from spreading with the power of love. Since it's based off a children's book, the story is simple and doesn't stray to far off the projected course of action. There are no shocking turns or big reveals, but instead is a story meant for children to tell them about the dangers of self doubt and how believing in yourself and others around you can stave off the darkness.
Ava DuVernay does her best to bring a straight adaptation of this famous children's book to life and while at times it can feel simple, it delivers exactly what it promises. A Wrinkle In Time gives us a sense of the fantastical while empowering us to believe in something bigger in ourselves.
