Mike's Movie Preview: June 2023

To kick off the Summer 2023 season, we’ve got spiders, robots, elements, a virgin, a criminal, and Indiana Jones.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse - The animated spin sees Miles Morales step across the multitude of heroes and villains in Part 1 of this animated adventure. You’ve never seen animation like this before, and it will leave you emotional by the end— and flooding the internet with memes until the sequel comes out in 2024.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts - Steven Caple, Jr. directs the 7th film in this long running franchise that needs to go away for a couple of years. While the domestic box office will say exactly this, it’s the international numbers that will help it be marked as a success at the end of the year.

Elemental - Pixar you’ve done it again. An instant classic that rivals some of the best work in the past couple of years. A masterclass of animation showcasing makes it worth the theatrical experience.

No Hard Feelings - Jennifer Lawrence stars in this raunchy R-rated comedy at Sony that sees her being hired to take an awkward teenager out on a ‘date’ as hired by his parents. It’s fine, but at times predictable as it toes the line between Easy A and Good Boys.

The Flash - Warner Bros finally releases this film amid turmoil and turnover at the studio. The reshoots for this film turned it from an expansive universe to a closed one as this will be the final chapter that was the DCEU. Keep an eye out for articles and explanations on what happened behind the scenes after the film's release.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny - Harrison Ford is back in his final outing as the titular character with Phoebe Waller-Bridge as the new companion. However, a secrecy of reshoots following early screenings has Phoebe’s role diminished as the new character comes off as snarky instead of fiery for the upcoming fourth of July weekend.
