Kathy Griffin axed from CNN's New Years show due to controversial tweet

The comedian's tweet depicting a decapitated head bearing an uncanny resemblance to someone with, um, political power in this country, has reached the execs over at CNN, and they're not thrilled.

Griffin has co-hosted the network's New Years Eve Live with Anderson Cooper since 2007. CNN announced her firing via, ironically, a tweet.

While I am always a proponent of using social media as commentary on current events, this might not have been a wise metaphor. Then again, Griffin has never been known for her subtlety.
